In-Depth Review
About the Brand
Waterpik have actually been around (albeit under a difference, less fun, name) since 1962. Always specialising in oral irrigators, for many years their products were the stuff of dentists’ rooms only. In the mid-2000s they launched into the UK domestic market and now they’re really getting some attention.
Waterpik® is changing the face of the dental industry and for good reasons. Waterpik® products:
- Are more effective than regular flossing
- Work in under a minute and save you valuable time
- Clinically proven to enhance gum health
- Ideal for braces, dentures and other dental work
- Reduce plaque
- Just keep going – no more remembering to buy floss!
But just what are these new, innovative appliances? And do you really need one?
Fast, safe and highly effective – meet the new water flossers
Did you know that MOST adults in the UK have gum disease or will experience it during their lifetime? In fact, gum disease is a major cause of tooth and bone loss.
Gum disease is caused by plaque, which in turn harbours nasty bacteria and inflames the gums. Doesn’t so fun eh?
But the good news is that you can take steps to avoid it and slow its progress. And that’s where Waterpiks come in.
Floss with water, mouthwash and air
Waterpik® products shoot jets of water or mouthwash between the teeth and around the gum line, dislodging and flushing out trapped food and bacteria.
Breaking down plaque build up and preventing new plaque from forming, Waterpiks are much easier to use and much faster than traditional floss. This is because the high-energy water jets reach tricky places more easily and more thoroughly.
Innovative design makes for easy, and dare we say fun use
Both the Waterpik® WP150 Ultra Water Flosser and the Waterpik® WP660 Ultra Professional Water Flosser have separate water/mouthwash reservoirs, allowing them to be used for longer without needing to be refilled.
With reservoir capacities of 90 seconds, you can do your whole mouth with just one reservoir and then refill it the next time.
The Waterpiks are attached to the reservoir by thin hoses, giving you ample length to stand in front of the mirror and move the device around each tooth.
No two mouths are the same so they shouldn’t be treated as such
While some other brands of water based flossers have just one or two settings, the Waterpik® WP150 Ultra Water Flosser and the WP660 Ultra Professional both have an impressive 10 settings.
The settings refer to the water pressure and this is to ensure that you can choose the pressure setting that’s right for your mouth and gums.
The Waterpik® Waterflosser WP450 Cordless Plus has two settings and is an ideal companion for travelling, holidays and business trips.
More modes, more personalisation
The Waterpik® Ultra Professional WP660 has 2 modes as well as 10 pressure settings.
- Floss Mode: Using pulsations, the floss mode is designed to break up existing plaque and flush out bacteria and debris.
- Hydro-Pulse Massage Mode: This is aimed at the gums and helps to improve circulation, cleanliness and gum health.
The Waterpik® WP150 Ultra Water Flosser doesn’t have fancy modes but it does have a pause button so you have full manual control along with 10 water pressure settings.
The Waterpik® WP450 Cordless version also lacks modes and has a smaller range of pressure settings but it unbeatable for its portability and ease of use.
Multiple nozzles for a completely clean mouth
With some other brands you’d be lucky to get a spare nozzle with your water flossing device but Waterpik® provide 6 or 7 with their hosed versions!
